There is a video of Dylan doing Alabama getaway on you tube. I have not brought myself to watch it. Anyone familiar with it and if so, is it the train wreck I imagine?

I don't think I would recommend it to a friend, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I feared.

I was expecting something real ugly.

Pretty good though. Seriously.

There's one there with Phil as well.

I saw him play this as an encore at the Fox in Atlanta not long after Jerry died. It was clearly a nod to the man's passing, and Bob knew he was in the South and all, so not a bad pick. As memory serves, he tore the house down with it and everybody was very impressed. A bit of catharsis since we were all still grieving at the time.

I saw Dylan perform Alabama Getaway when he was opening for the new "DEAD" 4-5 summers ago at Darien Lake. It wasn't too shabby as I recall.

cool thanks for mentioning this. There's a Gans interview with Hunter where he talks about when Dylan lifted Silvio from Front street and Hunter didn't find out until he recorded it. Gans asked if he was pissed and Hunter goes " hell man he's Bob Dylan, he doesn't have to ask" and compared the honor as better than any Bammy or Grammy out there. IF I were Hunter or anyone in the Dead I'd be honored as hell that the master chose to play one of their tunes.

I don't remember but that sounds right. As far as Hunter goes I remember he heard it from Dylan that he had recorded the tune.

It's not as bad as you might think it would be. Per usual, it's tough to determine whether he got the lyrics right. But Larry Campbell rocks it then just as he does now.

Side note- I saw him perform this song in my hometown right around this time, and a guy I knew from high school actually somehow managed to jump on the stage during the number. While sticking his tongue out and throwing up peace signs, he was quite literally sent ass over tincups back into the crowd by security. It was cool to see because I didn't like the guy then (we're actually friends now) and I don't really get into that behavior.
